Weapons Review
Watch the trailer here
I finally popped my Zach Creggar cherry and watched Weapons, holy shit what a ride. This movie is not for the faint of heart. Our story begins with a mystery, one that offers no explanation, how did 17 kids from the one class get out of bed at 2.17am, run out their front doors and finish without a trace. Tension builds, parents all look to cast blame and who better than the teacher Justine, played by Julia Garner(Ozark).
This mystery drags you in, you want to discover what happened to these kids as much as anyone. This movie is shot from multiple povs and maybe at times that affected the pacing but not in a bad way, each of these povs intensifies the story and as an audience we are driven to piece together what may have happened. The writing is bold, almost to bold at times but I watched with an open mind, i want to give a mention to the editing and cinematography, both do exceptional work, carrying scenes at times. Some shots linger just enough to let the unease set in, camera angles that just feel unnatural. The resolution comes in the form of flashbacks and dreams, which delivers some of the most twisted evil i have ever witnessed, but the trauma will remain.
With all that being said this movie doesn’t come without fault, we never learn why ceratain things happened or why some of the characters take certain paths also. some of the characters deserved more screen time. But overall this does not ruin the experience, it really shows Zach Creggar isnt afraid to push those boundariers. So for me whos not usually a horror fan Weapons works the way that a horror should, its creepy, gets under your skin, surprises you and really unsettles you even if you find youself laughing with moments of dread. Its not perfect but definetly worth it.
